Exploring Competency-Based Education and Learning Mobility in Texas: Trends, Models, & Resources

When:  Thu, Jul 9, 2026 from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM (CT)

Want to connect about competency-based education (CBE) in Texas?  Come join us!

Over the last decade, Texas lawmakers have placed emphasis on competency-based education and most recently recommitted through Texas Education Code 51.3535 and House Bill 4848, 89th Legislature. CBE isn’t just a notion any longer, with CBE programs offered throughout the state and in every type of education system, including high school. As learners bring new types of currency for their learning via competencies, there are exciting opportunities for credit mobility. Through the Texas Transfer Alliance and the Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) there are resources available to help you respond.

Join us for a virtual event on July 9 from 9-10 am CT to delve into critical topics such as:

  • What is the status of CBE implementation in Texas today?

  • What are some state and national exemplars?

  • What does CBE look like in transfer situations? What are the barriers and opportunities?

  • What happens when credit for competencies can be used to help learners transfer?

  • How can I access best practices and other resources?

  • How can I stay in touch with my colleagues statewide?
